Obituary

St. George, UT - Elizabeth Jane Hutchison passed away peacefully at her home Sunday morning the 6th of October after an extended illness. She is now free of her earthly tabernacle and re-united with her eternal sweetheart in God's presence. Betty Jane, or BJ as her friends and family referred to her, was born to Kurt Emil and Mildred Lewis Beutel on the 8th day of July, 1940. She was the second of three daughters and is survived by her older sister Johan Gibb, and younger sister, Meredith Sanders. She was born and raised in the Arizona mining town of Miami. She lived there until she left for college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. While in her third year of studying elementary education, she met a handsome young man by the name of Garry Hutchison. They fell in love and were soon married for time and all eternity in the Mesa Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the 29th of June, 1962. After their marriage they moved to Garry's hometown of Las Vegas to begin their life together. In May of the following year, their first son, Mark, was born, followed closely by another son, Jeffrey. The girls came later, first with Shawnna and then Holly to complete the family. BJ dedicated her life to raising her family, sustaining her husband, and serving in the Church. She was beloved by all who knew her, and could often be found on the phone consoling a friend. BJ was a champion of the underdog and famous for her chocolate chip cookies. She loved to read and was an excellent writer, spending many hours writing in her journals as well as writing poetry, stories, plays, and letters. Betty Jane is survived by her four children: Mark (Cary) Hutchison, Jeffrey (Raena) Hutchison, Shawnna (David) Bennett, and Holly (Andrew) Riggs, twelve grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Garry. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. (Nevada time) at the Hillpointe LDS Chapel, 9011 Hillpointe Road, Las Vegas, Nevada. A visitation will be held from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., prior to services, at the chapel. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. (Utah time) at the St. George City Cemetery, St. George, Utah. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
