She is survived by her brother, Alfred Joyce; her children: Joyce (Frank) Valone and Victor (Jolene) Gates; and her five grandchildren: Alicia, Emily, Leslie, Ben, and Nicholas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Esther Joyce; and her brothers and sisters: Tom, Mary, James, Fred and Ev.
Betsy was born in Chatham, Ontario, Canada on September 28, 1928. Her first husband was Delbert Lorenzo Jex (1921-1965) who brought her to America from Canada. They produced a daughter named Joyce Jex (born 1951). Later Betsy divorced Delbert and married Victor Genez Gates (1913-2010). They had a son named Victor David Gates (born 1955). About 10 years later, Betsy divorced her second husband. She lived in a mobile home in Santa Monica, CA with her two children, until she bought a condominium townhouse in Culver City, CA. Her career was working mostly for SDC (Systems Development Corporation)
Later she married Lael Wright Jordan (1921-2008) in the Los Angeles LDS Temple and were sealed for time and all eternity in 1972. Lael's first wife, Clarissa Van Dyke (1922-1969) was married and sealed to him in 1942.
During Victor's LDS mission to France (1980-1982 which they sponsored), Betsy and Lael sold their home in Long Beach, CA, and moved to Nephi, UT where they build a large ranch house.
Betsy went back to school and got her Master's Degree in Special Education from the University of Utah. She taught Special Ed kids at Nephi elementary for about 8 years. After she retired, they sold their home in Nephi and moved to Saint George, UT.
After Lael died, Betsy lived alone in St. George for a few years until she moved to Bountiful, UT to be closer to her son, Victor. Several years passed, and she ended up at the Inn at Barton Creek Assisted Living Apartments.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She attended the temple, worked on her family history, and served in such callings as Relief Society President and Gospel Doctrine teacher.
