Ivins, Utah – Ellen Shaw Bowler, age 71, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Dementia on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, in her home. She was born on September 18, 1951, in Salt Lake City to David Robert and Edith Anderson Shaw. She grew up in Salt Lake City, Cedar City, and Las Vegas. She graduated from Ed W Clarke High School. She met and fell in love with Franklin Bowler. They were sealed in the St George Temple on June 12, 1971. They moved to Ivins, Utah in 1974 where they have lived ever since, raising a family.
Ellen was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and always had a very strong testimony of her Savior and His atonement. She held many callings including Relief Society President, Primary President, Temple Worker, and Chorister. She loved music and sang in many church, institute, and school choirs. She also played the piano and passed her love of music and her musical talents on to her children.
She is survived by her loving husband of just shy of 52 years, Franklin; children: Annette (Brian) Smith of Cedar City, Samuel Bowler of St. George, Shawn (Bonnie) Bowler of Ivins, Jeremy (Kim) Bowler of St. George, Laurie (Jamie) Laws of Cedar City, and Micah (Karen) Bowler of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren: Benjamin, Rose, Ethan, Jayla, Amber, Celeste, Emma, Andrew, Crystal, Maggie, Kaydee, Kammie, Jadon, Ruby, Inara, Sabrina, Liam, and Kierra; brother, David (Trista) Shaw of Taylorsville; stepbrother, Joe (Diane) Ward of Charlottesville, Virginia; and her stepsister, Kathy (Scott) Nelson of Cedar City.
She was enthusiastically greeted by her parents Edith and Bob; stepdad, Parker; stepsisters: Marilyn, and Laura; and her two grandchildren: Richard and Beverly.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ivins Chapel, located at 15 North Main Street, Ivins, Utah. A visitation will be prior to the funeral from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be held at the Ivins City Cemetery located at 200 West 400 North.
