St. George, UT - Ellice Henrie Whitney, daughter of Hilda Vilate Prince and Jeddie Nephi Henrie, passed away peacefully at home in St. George, Utah on Saturday, September 18, 2010. She is survived by her daughters: Lucile and Elyce; her sons: Kent, Kim, Joel and David; her brother, Frank; and sister, Vira. Her oldest son, Ralph preceded her in death. Ellice was born on September 13, 1924 in Panguitch, Utah. She grew up in Panguitch then worked in Las Vegas, Nevada during WW II where she met her eternal love, Howard Grant Whitney while at a church meeting. Howard was enlisted in the United States Navy at the time and they were married on March 10, 1945 in the St. George Utah temple. Like so many great women of the time, she watched, waited, wrote letters of support and prayed for the safe return of her husband while he fought in the war. After the war they moved to St. George. She then finished college in Logan. They moved to Delta, Utah then to Upland, California and then ultimately settled in Lone Pine, California where they lived for the next 50 years and raised their family of seven children. Ellice worked for 18 years as a teacher's aide and had a great love for children. In 2006, they moved to St. George to be near the LDS Temple. Ellice's beloved husband Howard passed away in St. George on August 14, 2009 and was buried in the St. George City Cemetery where Ellice will now be by his side in death, as they were in life for 64 years of marriage. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 24, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS East Stake Center, 449 South 300 East, St. George, Utah. Visitation will be held Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center, prior to services. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
