St. George, UT - Elva Cheney Dewey, daughter of Clarence M. Cheney and Alice Leal Blackburn Cheney passed away September 20, 2009, of causes incident to age. She was born the second of ten children on June 24, 1916 in Sunnydell, Idaho. She married Lynn Merrill Dewey in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 7, 1941. Elva was extremely active in the LDS Church serving as Primary President, a teacher in the Relief Society, a counselor in the Relief Society Presidency, as the Jr. Sunday School coordinator for 10 years, an active Visiting Teacher and Sunday School and Stake General Secretary. Her greatest love, besides her family, was genealogy, serving for 25 years in the Extraction Program. She and her husband, Lynn, served an LDS Mission in the Charleston, West Virginia Mission. She is survived by her five children: Renee (James Steven Richeson), Lavergne, Tennesse, Royce (Sherry Pennington), Highland, Utah, Marilyn (Kent Granat), Idaho Falls, Idaho, Vaughn (Beverly Thomas), Norman, Oklahoma, Lynell, Medford Oregon, 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn and her daughter Sheryl. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the St. George LDS 2nd Ward Chapel, 166 South Main, St. George, UT. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the 2nd ward chapel. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
