Obituary

St. George, Utah - Our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Elva Jean Carter Macpherson, age 90, passed away on March 28, 2016 at her St George home from natural causes. How grateful we are that families will be together forever.  What joy Jean must be experiencing right now as she reunites with her husband, Alex, daughter, Jody, granddaughter, Kayla, her parents Thomas Carter and Nancy Mable Porter Carter, and 11 other brothers and sisters.

Jean was born July 26, 1925 in Porterville, Utah to Thomas Carter and Nancy Mable Porter. She grew up on her Mom and Dad's Porterville farm with 12 other brothers and sisters. Even though she was the baby, Jean learned to work hard and to love animals, especially birds and kittens.

Jean was a friend to all people.  A few of her many school friends included Elaine Pitt, Marion Visser, Glenn Johnston, Bob Corliss, and Carol (Davis) Dymock.

Jean graduated from Ogden High School in 1943 and was an active member of the Pep Club.  From 1942-44 she worked at "Brenda Kent's Exclusive Tayloring Mill" where she learned to be an expert seamstress along with two co-worker friends, Mary Pagano and Leah Rasmussen.

Jean married Alexander Macpherson June 20, 1945 for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The example of their happy and loving marriage is a tremendous gift to their posterity. We have all been blessed to witness a wonderful love story throughout our lives. Her hobbies included cooking, baking and many handicrafts especially sewing dresses for her five beautiful daughters, all of whom learned the art of sewing from her.  Jean was always active in the LDS Church serving in such callings as teacher, visiting teacher, and as president of several ward and stake organizations where she was known for the "healing power of her chicken soup."  Jean was a very active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and loved serving with all of her DUP friends in the St George region.

She is missed greatly by all, especially her children: Pam and Barry Costa of Prescott, AZ, Susan and Jack Boden of American Fork, UT, Julie Ann Wheeler of Santa Ana, CA, and Nancy Taylor of St George, UT.

We will honor her memory by following her Christ-like example of loving kindness.  She is also survived by her sister; June Steele Oreck of Ogden, UT; 16 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and all of those who have met and loved her.

Come join us in celebrating her Christ-like life on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bloomington LDS 3rd Ward   Chapel, 3519 Manzanita, St. George, Utah.  Visitations will be Friday, April 1st from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd and Saturday, prior to services, at 12:00 p.m. at the Chapel.

Jean's graveside service will be held for family members and friends on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the El Toro Memorial Park, 25751 Trabuco Road, Lake Forrest, California, where she will be laid to rest next her beloved husband, Alex.
