Cammack

St. George, UT - Elwin Francis Cammack, age 86, passed away November 25, 2012 at his home. He was born June 8, 1926 in Darlington, Idaho to Rulon Francis and Desa Theobald Cammack. He grew up on farms in Sterling and Pingree, Idaho, graduated from Thomas High School, and served an LDS mission in Great Britain. While attending Ricks College, he met Jessie Claire Morrell. They were married July 3, 1951, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Elwin received degrees from Ricks College and Brigham Young University, and an Ed.D. from Michigan State University. He worked as an elementary school principal in Tooele and Wendover and then as a professor and administrator at Weber State University. In 1967, he moved with his family to Madison, Wis., where he worked as the associate vice president of policy analysis and research for the University of Wisconsin System. Elwin retired from the university in 1990, and he and Jessie Claire moved to Southern Utah.
Throughout his life, he served his church and his community in many capacities, including as a bishop, high councilor, stake executive secretary, and temple ordinance worker. Elwin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Stanley; and three sisters-in-law. He is survived by three brothers, Edwin, Grant and Ray; and a sister, Barbara Anderson; his wife, Jessie Claire; his children: Phyll, Mark, Camille, Karen and Paul; 14 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Elwin liked to travel around the United States in his camper, visiting family and seeing the country. One of his great loves was his garden in Barneveld, Wis., where he grew bushels of vegetables that he shared with many friends and neighbors. Most of all, he loved being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS 7

Ward Chapel, 3381 South Mulberry Drive, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS church.
