Obituary

Washington, Utah – Elwin Iverson Jones, 83, passed away from cancer on January 20, 2016, at his home in Washington, UT. He was born May 17, 1932 in Cedar City, Iron Co., UT, to LaVon LeFevre and Eva Marie (Iverson) Jones.  He was the second of four sons. He married Donna Lou Alldredge in the St. George Utah Temple on July 3, 1954. Donna died on August 31, 1999. He married Roma Rae Cox in the St. George Utah Temple on November 11, 2000.

Elwin grew up in Mt. Trumbull, AZ, and St. George, UT, where he attended the local schools. He enlisted in the US Marines, and served in the Korean War. While on leave, he married Donna. After his military service, he graduated from Utah State University, and began his teaching career. During his teaching career of 17 years, he taught in various schools in Utah, California, Arizona, and Nevada. He was a cowboy and rancher at heart. He worked as a farmer, dairyman, printer, forest ranger, and jack-of-all-trades. Donna and Elwin have nine children. After Donna's death, Elwin married Roma Rae, adding four children. Roma and Elwin served in the Arkansas Little Rock Mission in 2004. Later, they also served a humanitarian mission in St. George. He loved animals, nature, gardening, poetry, storytelling, guitar playing, missionary work, family history, the gospel, and living the simple life. He loves his family. His desire for them is to be happy, loving, kind, and forgiving.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jones; and grandson, Landon Jorgensen. Elwin is survived by his nine children: Lou Ella (Mike) Boothe, Anona (Bob) Pack, Diane (Kevin) Nuttall, Evan (Cheryl) Jones, Colleen Jones, Ellie Jones, Phil (Lydia) Jones, Paul Jones, Shane (Jeremee) Jones; his wife, Roma; and her four children: Del (Becky) Scott, Julie (Aaron) Jorgensen, Randy (Michelle) Scott, and Holly (Chad) Burnett. He is also survived by 44 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington LDS Stake Center, 446 East Mangum Road, Washington, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, at 9:00 a.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be held in the St. George City Cemetery.
