Obituary

St. George, UT - Our beloved mother and grandmother, Emily Lee Quillin Trenholm, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 7, 2012 in St. George, Utah. She was born on March 11, 1925, in Norton, Virginia, to George Dewey Quillin and Irma Lucille Tarry Quillin. She was the younger of two children.

When mom was 16 years old, she left home and worked for the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. It was during this time that mom was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Mabel Brown. This was a friendship that would last a lifetime. As soon as she was introduced to the gospel, mom realized this was what she had been searching for her whole life. She embraced the gospel and never looked back.

On May 3, 1943, mom met and married Richard C. Fast. Together, they had three children. A few years later, their marriage ended in divorce. Mom then began her career in medicine as a medical coder at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Her work as a medical coder lasted a lifetime. She took her GED and received the second highest score of anyone in the state of Virginia.

In 1952, mom joined the U.S. Air Force. She completed basic training in Boloxi, Mississippi. She was in command of a squadron of women. In 1954, she was transferred to a base in Dallas, Texas where she met and married Charles (Charlie) D. Trenholm. Together, they had three children. A fourth child was adopted in 1976 while the family was living in Boulder, Colorado.

In 1982, mom moved to St. George, UT where she continued her career as a medical coder. She was an avid genealogist researching generations of her family so that Temple work could be completed on their behalf. On September 24, 2003 mom was sealed to her husband, Charlie, in the St. George LDS Temple.

Mom will be remembered for the great love she had for her Heavenly Father, her Savior, and her children and for the unshakable testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ which kept herself and her children going through tough times and difficult trials and in the face of great adversity. Her faith was her greatest gift. She is truly a Savior on Mt. Zion.

She is survived by her children: Rick (Sherry) Fast, Memphis, IN; Eric (Beth) Fast, Sierra Vista, AZ; Carol (Jerry) Nelson, West Jordan, UT; Kathy Trenholm, St. George, UT; Eileen (Reid) LaDeau, Portland, ME; Mark (Jill) Trenholm, Ft. Collins, CO; and Tony (Danell) Trenholm, Las Vegas, NV; 21 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and her husband, Charles Dodge Trenholm.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. George City Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. prior to services at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, UT.
