Obituary

Emuel Moroni Jenson, a long time resident of St. George, died Sept. 22, 2009 at age 97. He was born the fourth of eleven children on May 23, 1912 in Millville, UT to Joseph Moroni Jenson and Augusta Amalia Elvira Jeppson (Andersson). Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 26th at the Nineteenth Ward chapel, located at 550 East 700 South at 3:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Metcalf Mortuary, on Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 1:30-2:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the St. George Cemetery next to his wife, Vera, who passed away in March of 2001. Emuel married Vera Perkes of Hyde Park, UT on September 7, 1934 in Farmington, UT. Their early married years included the struggles of the Great Depression and World War II. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple in September, 1942. They are the parents of six children. They started their family in Logan, then lived for many years in Brigham City and finally they moved to St. George in 1965. Emuel's long life was filled with service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. For years Emuel and Vera served as Stake Dance Directors in Brigham City, UT on two different occasions. He served in the Brigham City 15th Ward Bishopric and worked with the youth in the Mutual Improvement Association as Explorer Scout Advisor. He loved to be outdoors where he could camp and fish and hunt. He shared this love with his family and the youth of the Church. He served a full time mission in Missouri, Tennessee and Kentucky with Vera from 1977 through 1979. Together they served until he was 84 years old. He was also involved in the leadership of the High Priests Group of his Ward for many years. He was age 85 when he was last called to this position. He also enjoyed playing golf which he did regularly until the last year of his life. The activity Emuel truly enjoyed was giving service in the St. George Temple. For ten years he served each Wednesday evening in the baptistery of the temple. This was followed by eighteen (18) years as an ordinance worker and shift supervisor in the temple. The past several years he has been in the temple for four to six hours, every day the temple was open. He did this until right after his 97th birthday, May of this year. Emuel was loved and will be missed by many friends and family. But we are happy that he is now with Vera and other family members who have gone before him. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. Survivors include one daughter and five sons: Gerald Emuel (Woods Cross, UT), Sidney LaMarr (Farmington, UT), Merlin Ray (Littleton, CO), Ralph Allen (Riverside, ID), Susan (Robert) Blake (St. George, UT) and Ray D (Price, UT). His sisters: Meda Curtis (St. George, UT), Inez Peterson (Las Vegas, NV), LaVonne Yeates (Nibley, UT) and Ruth Shoup (Logan, UT). He also leaves behind 36 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren. Arrangements entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
