St. George, UT - Etta Cheeney passed away September 2, 2015. She was born July 24, 1929 in Mesquite, NV to Mildred Hughes and Heber Chase Leavitt. She married Bertram Cheeney, Jr. on September 25, 1947 in Las Vegas, NV. They were later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Etta was an active member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She and Bert served in the Laminate Mission in Las Vegas, NV. She was a Young Women's President, Relief Society Teacher and Visiting Teacher. Etta was a Banker for 25 years at Dixie State Bank, First Security Bank and Wells Fargo. She was active in the National Federation of Republican Women and was President of The Business and Professional Women's Club in St. George, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertram Cheeney, Jr. in 1971. She was a widow for over 44 years. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Harley, Lamar and Lindsey; sisters: Eloise, Noma and Sarah. She is survived by her daughters: Lisa (Kevin) Norton and Lorraine (Lloyd) Cummings; a son, Alex (Nancy) Cheeney; 14 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Etta loved her family and they were her passion in life. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS East Stake Center located at 449 South 300 East. Visitations will be held Monday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Tuesday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Veyo Cemetery, Veyo, Utah.
