Obituary

St. George, Utah - On March 16, 2012, Evelyn Christina Herrmann Fink passed, from causes incident to age, from this life to the next. There was a most joyous reunion with her beloved husband Ed and numerous family and dear friends. Evelyn started this life on December 30,1925 in Alameda, California. She was born to Johanna Liedtke and William Julius Herrmann and was welcomed by her sister Gertrude Elizabeth. She had a younger brother, William Jr. Evelyn was an active and an inquisitive little girl. When Evelyn was five, she rode her tricycle across the street and was hit by a motorist who was distracted watching an airplane. Her life was saved when the handlebar scraped his bumper. It was feared that she would not live and then it was thought that Evelyn would not be able to walk, but after a blessing, she was able to wiggle a toe. Since her pelvis was broken, it was thought she would never have children but that was proved wrong. Mom healed and continued to grow up in Alameda. Alameda was the great jumping off point for historic flights since a plane could bail out in the San Francisco Bay easier than the ocean. So Evelyn was able to see Amelia Earhart take off and witnessed the maiden flight of the China Clipper.

Evelyn's mother was given a copy of the Book of Mormon and from that time on, the family were stalwart members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Evelyn had a great love for the gospel and the Savior. When she discovered her great passion for family history, one knew that Evelyn's great loves were her family, genealogy and her church. Evelyn met her husband Edgar Earl Fink at a dance and they were married three months later on October 20, 1946 in Berkeley, CA. As a valentine's present to themselves, they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 25, 1948. Dad was the only one for her and was the love of her life. Three children were born to them: Loretta Gene (C. Richard Prince), Barbara Yvonne (Peter Van Maren) and Robert Earl (Amber Cook). They were to have five grandchildren (Alyssa Hardy, Christal (Travis) Sandstrom, Stephen (MariaElena) Van Maren, Brent(Colleen) Hardy and Lauren Van Maren) and six great-grandchildren (Dallen, Hunter, Teegan, Samuel, Bella and Kyler). Her husband was involved with aircraft repair and worked for Garrett Corporation. They made different moves with his work; living in San Leandro, CA, Hanford, CA, Alameda, CA, San Antonio, TX, Pittsburgh, PA and Mesa, AZ. They enjoyed travel together and among the places they traveled were to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and a BYU travel/study to Israel. Mom and dad moved to St. George in 1997. They lived in Dixie Downs before moving to Sterling Court. Dad passed away in 2003. Mom continued to live at Sterling Court until needing to move to Red Cliffs Rehab. Mom always made the best of things and tried to help others. Mom is also survived by her brother, George M. (Launa) Herrmann. We would like to thank all those who have cared for mom at Red Cliffs and Sterling Court and the kindness of Dr. Thomas Jones.
