Obituary

St. George, Utah - Gale Rodgers passed away April 11, 2013. He was born March 13, 1916 in Avert, Missouri to William and Lulamae Rodgers. He moved to Arkansas at an early age. He graduated from Arkansas State College Jonesboro, Arkansas. he began teaching after graduation in 1937 at Bay, Arkansas , and taught there for five years.

He received his Masters in the School of Administration from George Peabody College, Nashville, Tennessee in 1951. He taught continuously, except for three years during World War II when he served in the Army. He began his administrative work as a principle at Leachville High School in Leachville, Arkansas for two years prior to moving to Coolidge in 1955, where he has taught for 23 years.

He was married to Faye Taylor in 1938. They have a son, Dennis Rodgers. Dennis and his wife, Judy, live in Corvallis, OR. Gale has four grandsons; Gregory Rodgers (Karen) of Orem, UT, Kenneth Todd Rodgers (Troy) of San Francisco, CA, Mathew Rodgers (Mary) of Corvallis, OR and Galen Rodgers (Kari) of Maple Valley, WA. He has 10 great-grandchildren.

Gale has been active in our chapter on the CEA for over 20 years. He served as Vice-President for one year and was President for two terms. He held the office of Treasurer for several years and served as Salary Chairman for six years. On the state level with A.E.A, he served two terms or six years as a Delegate at Large and served on the PR&R committee for four years.

Gale belongs to the National Council of Mathematics - Phi Delta Kappa and is a member of the American Legion, Elks and Masonic Lodge in Coolidge. He also is member of The Presbyterian Church.

He has given 40 years to education. He has always had high principles and standards, and never wavered from these in his teaching career. He is a man with great convictions. He has always been willing to do his share of the work and more, when asked to do so. He has been a strong rudder through the stormy seas of problems that have kept us afloat.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
