– Our dear husband, father and brother, Garr William Welker, 89, passed away June 16, 2016.
Garr was born September 26, 1926 to Charles Wesley and Adella Harrison Welker, fourth of seven children. He spent his childhood in Logan, Utah roaming the mountains and foothills and swimming in a swimming hole that he and his friends built.
Garr served in the United States Army where he served as a medic at Fort Sam Houston and served six months in Japan. Later he worked for the United States Bureau of Reclamation as a stationary equipment operator at Hoover Dam and also as a filter plant operator in Boulder City, Nevada. He retired after 23 years.
Garr served as a LDS missionary with his wife as a member locator and also as a temple worker in the St George LDS Temple. He passed away peacefully at Summerfield Manor in Orem, Utah surrounded by a loving and devoted family. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Alice H. Welker; his brother, Ivan Welker; sister, Julia (Jay) Pitkin; children: Garr Welker Jr., Robert (Susan) Welker, Suzy (Ron) Brown, Christy (Lyle) Hougan, Patti (Ed) Smalley and Betty (Jess) Ware; 20 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Morningside LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 879 South River Road, St George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
