Obituary

Gary L. Olsen

St. George, Utah - Gary L. Olsen, 79, passed away peacefully in his home on October 24, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on February 14, 1944, in Salt Lake City, UT to Chester Olsen and Beverly E. Harrison. He married Galyne Allen, the love of his life and favorite hunting partner.

Gary is preceded in death by his father Chester who passed in 1979, and his mother Beverly who passed in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Galyne; sons: Todd (Francis) Olsen of Payette, ID, Terry (Jessie) Olsen of Payette, ID, Ryan (Kari) Olsen of West Valley City, UT, Doug (Jessie) Olsen of St. George, UT; and daughter, Connie (Rusty) Losee of St. George, UT. He was the proud grandpa to 17 grandkids and 14 great grandkids, siblings, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Gary was the oldest of 6 boys. Growing up he was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed going to their family cabin. His love for the outdoors never diminished as he got older. You would find him most weekends doing these things with his family.

Nothing compared to his anticipation for the annual October deer hunt. Most of Gary and Galyne's cherished memories were created during this season. His ability to locate and take the animal with a single shot was uncanny.

Several of his favorite activities were shooting hoops, bowling, and golf. He spent countless hours creating a perfectly manicured landscape. In his spare time, he would hand draw house plans with very specific details. It was his dream to become an architect.

Gary had a successful career as a regional manager for Mountain Fuel which later became known as Questar Gas. He was very proud of his work and spent a lot of time handling meticulous matters. He was always very satisfied with the opportunities his career provided him.

A few things need to be said about Gary's oddities. He loved a free hot dog, cheap T-shirts, finding "good deals", could tell time without a watch, loved to tease to no end, preferred sweets to all other foods and couldn't take no for an answer. But, as stubborn as he was, he would often have a twinkle in his eye and would often cry every time he had to say goodbye to his loved ones.

Though Gary might have struggled with his health in recent years, he spent most of his life living it to the fullest. He leaves an emptiness that won't be filled. Gary was my sweetheart, Dear, Best Friend, and the love of my life.

So long Dear! We know you are having your next great adventure. Save us a spot on the mountain!
