Gayle Bohus Stastny, age 76, passed away November 7, 2017 at his home after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. He was born April 13, 1941 in Twin Falls, Idaho, the third of four children to Bohus Larry Stastny and Viviette Ellsworth. He grew up in Murtaugh, Idaho, and married Karen Louise Lincoln on August 16, 1960. They had seven children, 27 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
Gayle spent his life in service to others. He was a great neighbor, and always looked for ways to help those around him. He was a handyman extraordinaire, and often the first person to be called when things were broken. He was a gentle giant, who was generous with his hugs and the love he gave. He loved the outdoors and spent many years serving as a volunteer in the Scouting program. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved the Lord and served in many different callings throughout his life, including missions with his beloved wife to Boston, Massachusetts and Martin's Cove, Wyoming. He used his hobbies such as knife-making, fishing, hiking and woodworking to bless family and friends. He especially enjoyed making and giving away his knives to grandchildren and family.
He graduated from Idaho State University, College of Technology with an electronics degree and worked with the Department of Energy at the Nevada Test Site for 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen Stastny; six of their children: Cindy (Rick) Comstock, Pennie (Craig) Barker, Lori (Tim) Bryan, Brian (Charissa) Stastny, Nathan (Canda) Stastny, Rebecca (Geoff) Covington; three of his siblings: Darla (Roy) Hancock, Joyce Gentry, and Carol (Lewie) O'Harra. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bohus and Viviette Stastny, and his son, Jason Stastny.
We wish to acknowledge the gentle, gracious care given to Gayle by Rocky Mountain Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
