Ogden, Utah - Geoffrey R. Garlick, 86, died peacefully surrounded by his family, at his home in Ogden, Utah on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Geoff was born December 14, 1924, in Auckland, New Zealand, the third of four children born to Ada Jeannette Lundius and Stanley Clyde Garlick. Geoff was educated at Fielding Agricultural College in New Zealand. He married April Clair Thompson on February 28, 1947. In 1953, Geoff and April joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While in New Zealand Geoff served faithfully in the church as a Bishop and then President of the Manurewa Stake. In 1978, Geoff and April immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, then in 1978, to Salt Lake City. While living in Salt Lake City, Geoff again served as Bishop of the 4th Ward, Liberty Stake. During this time he worked for the Doxey Layton Corporation managing Foothill Village and he and April owned and operated the Cheese Haus. In 1992, Geoff was called to serve with April as the Director of the New Zealand Temple Visitors Center in Hamilton, New Zealand. After returning home from their mission, Geoff and April were called as temple workers in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In 1995, they moved to Geoffs paradise in St George, Utah. Here Geoff and April also served as temple workers in the St. George LDS Temple. April passed away in 2001. In 2003, Geoff married Gwen Stokes. Geoff and Gwen enjoyed seven happy years together living summers in Ogden and winters in St. George. Geoff was preceded in death by his wife, April; sister, Joan, who died in infancy; brother, Brian who was killed in WWII, and a great-grandson, Tyler James Webster. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gwen; his sister, Jill Palmer of New Zealand; three children: Jocelyn Clair Garry (Peter) of Calgary, Canada, Barry Graham Garlick (Eva) of Highland, Utah and Beverley Joan Rose (Michael) of Eagle River, Alaska; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and many friends. The family would like to express special thanks to Stephanie and Maggie from Hospice of Utah in Ogden. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley 3rd Ward Chapel, 5600 South 850 East, South Ogden, Utah. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 2nd from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel, prior to services. A second Funeral service will also be held in St. George on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sun River LDS Chapel, 4461 So. Country Club Drive, St. George, Utah with a viewing prior from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
