IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Earl
Elwell, Jr.
December 6, 1942 – May 26, 2021
Ivins, Utah - George Earl Elwell Jr passed away May 26, 2021, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.
George was born to George Earl Sr. and Linnie Mae Jones Elwell on December 6, 1942, in Gridley, CA. He has one loving sister, Betty Wentz of Spanish Fork, Utah. Later in life he was blessed to have a loving stepfather, Harold Baker. He was raised a country boy and loved the outdoors. George graduated from Yuba City High School in 1960 and joined the US Marine Corp from 1960-1964. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton near San Diego, CA. After serving his country George acquired a job at McCloskey Varnish Co. where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Linda Huffman. George and Linda were married January 21, 1967, in Norwalk, California. They were blessed with two children, George Jeffrey and Lisa Darlene.
George joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department in 1969 to serve and protect that community for 22 years.
Shortly after retirement George and Linda moved to Ivins, Utah. He quickly became involved in city politics. He served as a councilman for 14 years.
George had many talents and interests. He was a golfer, hiker, runner, camper, gardener, woodworker, photographer, athlete, teacher, and lifelong learner. But the most important aspect of George was his unselfish devoted love to his family and all those he embraced as family and friends over his lifetime.
George is survived by his wife, Linda; son, George and his wife Maria; daughter, Lisa and her husband Tim Maserang; and sister, Betty Wentz and her husband the late Robert W. Wentz; a special "adopted" son, Kelly Campbell and his wife Jodie; eight grandchildren: Ashley, Chris, Tyler, Emily, TJ (Tim) Cody, Kaitlyn, and Henry; five great grandchildren: Ayva, Kylie, Jack, Jazlynn, Willow Rae; and numerous nieces, nephews and special friends.
George lived his life in a way that honored his dedication and love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The family would like to thank the incredible 3rd floor staff of the St. George Regional Hospital and all of the IHC Hospice Care Team that have so compassionately taken care of the man who has been the heart of our family.
