IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George Perry
Lang
May 22, 1922 – November 8, 2011
Hurricane, Utah - George Perry Lang, age 83, passed away November 8, 2011. He was born May 22, 1928 in St. George, Utah and spent most of his life living and loving the red hills of Dixie. George was one of nine children born to Perry and Myrtle Lang.
Immediately following graduation form Dixie High School, George joined the U.S. Navy serving on the Battleship Missouri. Following an honorable discharge, he attended Dixie College where he met and married the love of his life and eternal sweetheart, Carma Lee, on October 6, 1949 in the St. George LDS Temple. Together they were challenged with four sons and blessed with four beautiful daughters-in-law: Ben (Janet) of Washington, Utah, Doug (Poiette) of Orem, Utah, Steve (Barbara) of Washington, Utah and Curtis (Teri) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and further blessed with 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
For a short time, George worked construction in California and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad before bringing his young family back to southern Utah where he served as a police officer with the St. George City Police Department. He later joined the Utah Highway Patrol where he continued to serve for the next 20 years.
George and Carma were instrumental in starting the Gold Wing Association in Utah. They spent many happy hours sight-seeing the western United States on their motorcycle.
After retiring from the UHP in 1983, he drove truck for Rocky Mountain before he and Carma began traveling in their RV around the country exploring new horizons and making many new friends along the way. They eventually settled in Hurricane.
George loved the outdoors and spent many hours hauling firewood, deer hunting and enjoying the beauty of the hills. He loved and spent as much time as possible at his ranch, nicknamed Tranquillity, located at Mountain Meadows. There he loved to garden, work the land and enjoyed the peace and quiet. He loved hosting reunions and parties for his family and friends, but of all the things George loved, the greatest love was his family and he encouraged them to always stay close.
He and Carma faithfully served a mission for the LDS church at the Employment Center and then continued their service for over 2 years in the St. George LDS Temple.
George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carma; sons; sister, Lois (Lynn) Taylor and brother, Joe (Janet) both of Ogden, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Fred and Ray; and sisters: Nola, Grace, Thelma and Lena.
The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to Dr. Jerald Hagen, the staff Red Cliffs Regional Rehabilitation Facility, especially Ashley, James, Minnette and many others too numerous to name. They would also like to thank Zions Way Hospice, especially Cami and Debra.
