IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gertrude Jensen
Bowler
February 13, 1928 – December 11, 2012
Gunlock, UT - After 66 years, 6 months and 6 days of marriage, our mother, Gertrude Jensen Bowler, 84, returned "home" for Christmas on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. She passed away peacefully at her home in Gunlock, Utah. Gertrude was born in Mesquite, Nevada on February 13, 1928. She was the eleventh of thirteen children born to John Jensen and Abigail Christina Jensen. Growing up in Mesquite she enjoyed participating in cheerleading and excelled in music. She married her eternal companion and love of her life, Guy Wilson Bowler, on June 5, 1946 in the St. George Temple. They enjoyed their lives together while raising their 10 children in Gunlock, Utah. Beyond her devotion as an outstanding wife and mother, Gertrude lived a life of service. She blessed many lives by sharing her talents in floral arranging, quilting, and gardening. Perhaps her greatest service was rendered through her musical abilities. She was self-taught on the accordion, piano and organ and served in many musical capacities throughout her life. She and Guy often entertained loved ones with old western songs. Gertrude was also well known for her love of hard work. She was once included in a Life Magazine pictorial featuring her diligently at work. Gertrude was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in numerous church callings, supported her seven sons as they served LDS missions and especially enjoyed many years of service in the St. George temple with her husband Guy. In 1996 Guy and Gertrude were called on a mission to serve in the Chicago, Illinois Temple. While serving in Chicago, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and were overjoyed as their 10 children and spouses surprised them with a reunion in the temple on their special day. Gertrude is survived by her husband Guy Wilson Bowler; her children Bradley (Vicky) Bowler, Loreen (Andy) Wilson, Gail (Roger) Humphries, Marie (Larry) Jessup, John (Shelley) Bowler, Kalvin (Becky) Bowler, Kendle (Robin) Bowler, Vance (Julianne) Bowler, Dorrel (Joni) Bowler, Odean (Kim) Bowler. She is also survived by 50 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren and her sister Bodel Bundy. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at11:00 a.m. at the Gunlock LDS Ward Chapel, 733 North Main Street, Gunlock, UT. Visitations will be held on Friday, December 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, UT and on Saturday, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Gunlock City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
