IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gladys Bernice
Arave Farnsworth Hall
January 10, 1923 – May 10, 2012
St. George, Utah - Gladys (Grandma Sugar) left this earth May 10, 2012, at the age of 89, surrounded by many of her loved ones. She was born January 10, 1923 to Arthur L. Arave and Edith Malm in Pocatello, Idaho. She was raised in Pocatello and Blackfoot, Idaho. She then moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she met and married Kent Thornton Farnsworth on July 4, 1941. They had four children: Larry, Edward, Darlene and Richard. They moved to Cedar City, Utah and eventually settled in St. George, Utah where they owned the St. George Gas Company. Kent passed away in 1963.
On July 14, 1968 Gladys married Ferren (Jay) Hall and gained five daughters: MaryJay, Frances, Jackie, Marsha and Toni. They moved back to Las Vegas, Nevada where Jay worked. During their time there they bought, remodeled and sold five different homes. This was something they loved doing together. When Jay retired, they moved to Veyo, Utah where they continued to work together remodeling homes - especially their childrens homes.
When she wasnt working with Jay, you would find Gladys either in her quilting "barn" making quilts or her kitchen making bread and rolls. She was known for her mouth-watering hot rolls which she always had ready for whom ever walked through her door. She made hundreds of quilts which she gave away. She taught her daughters, grandchildren and anyone who asked the secrets to her great rolls and how to quilt. She loved to share her talents.
She lived for her grandchildren. Each and every one of them thought that she loved them the most. And she did.
She had a great testimony of the gospel. Being a member of the LDS Church, she was able to share her talents in all the organizations.
Gladys was preceded in death by her father and mother; two sisters: Georgia Arave and Mildred Monson; two husbands: Kent Thornton Farnsworth and Ferren Jay Hall; two sons: Lawrence Farnsworth and Edward Farnsworth; and two grandchildren: Shera Lea Wilson and Trent Farnsworth. She is survived by Darlene (Evan) Wilson and Richard (Dhana) Farnsworth both of Veyo, UT, MaryJay Kincade of Rodgers, AK, Frances (Ole) Jensen of Salt Lake City, UT, Jackie (Raymond) Green of Herriman, UT, Marsha (Mike) Farnham of Rodgers, AK, Toni Hall of Salt Lake City, UT; brother-in-law, Jay Willis of St. George, UT; sister-in-law, Lorna Hall of St. George, UT; 21 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. And many more she picked up along the way. She loved them all.
The family wishes to thank the Veyo LDS Ward and the Veyo Young Men for all their compassion to mom. A special thanks to Dr. Clark Staheli, Utah Hospice Specialist and Kolob Care and Rehabilitation Center.
