St. George, Utah - Glenda Vivian Bailey Temple, 85, passed away October 11, 2011, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She was born in Basalt, Idaho on December 1, 1925 to John and Helma Bailey. Glenda grew up in Twin Falls, Idaho.
In 1943, she attended Pasadena City College. She met Pedro Temple in 1945 and three years later they were married. They moved to Bell Gardens, CA, where they raised their four children: Zenda, Marlena, Gary, and Arleen. Glenda worked in the Los Angeles area for Lord and Babcock Plumbing Company. She continued working there while she attended night school at Los Angeles Trade Tech College. She earned her Associate Librarian degree in 1971. In 1972 she and husband Pedro, moved to St. George, Utah where she worked at Dixie College as an Acquisition Librarian until she retired in 1991.
In 1993, Glenda and Pedro filled a church mission at the St. George LDS Temple Visitor's Center and were also guides at the Jacob Hamlin Home and other historic church locations. Glenda, along with her husband Pedro, were Temple workers in the St. George LDS moved to Gaithersburg, MD in 2006 and lived with her daughter, Marlena and son-in-law Paul Black.
Glenda is survived by her four children, Zenda J. McMurray of Brawley, CA; Marlena C. Black of Gaithersberg, MD; Gary B. Temple of St. George, Utah; and Arleen J. Mease of St. George, Utah. Glenda had 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grand children.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George LDS Stake Center, 591 West 500 North, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center, Interment will follow at the St. George City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Glenda to The Temple Patron Fund. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
