Obituary

Glenn Richard Wilde, beloved father, grandfather, and educator, passed away peacefully in St. George, Utah, on October 2, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on January 23, 1943, in Coalville, Utah, Glenn lived a life marked by devotion to family, dedication to education, and an enduring passion for history and community.

Glenn grew up in the close-knit town of Coalville, where his love for learning and curiosity about the world first began to develop. He made and maintained many special friendships from his youth. Glenn married Anne Taylor and started his family journey. He and his family moved to Logan, Utah in 1965 where he continued his education, and formed many wonderful friendships with neighbors and colleagues that lasted through his life.

Glenn pursued higher education with vigor, attending Weber State and earning his bachelor's degree from Utah State University, a master's degree from the University of Utah, and ultimately a Ph.D. from Utah State University. His academic journey laid the foundation for a career dedicated to scholarship, service, and leadership.

Throughout his distinguished career, Glenn held numerous influential positions in higher education. At Utah State University, he served as Associate Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences and later as Dean of Library and Information Technology. Among his most significant contributions was his leadership in expanding the university's Extension Services program, where he authored key grants and proposals that extended educational opportunities to communities across Utah. Glenn was also instrumental in development of the Western Writers Conference and the Fife Folklore Program at Utah State, both of which celebrated storytelling, history, and cultural traditions while elevating the university's reputation in the humanities. From 1998 to 2005, Glenn served as Vice Provost at the University of Idaho, where he brought vision and innovation to his work. He retired in 2005 to St. George, Utah, where he continued to enjoy the company of family and friends while reflecting on a life well lived.

Family was the heart of Glenn's life. On March 30, 1963, he married his sweetheart, Carol "Anne" Wilde, with whom he built a loving home in Logan, Utah. Together, they raised their four children: Michael Glenn Wilde (Traci), Jeffrey Don Wilde (Keri), Laurie Anne Zollinger (Scott), and Richard Glenn Wilde (Amy). Glenn was a proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 4, each of whom brought him immense joy. Though he was preceded in death by his dear wife Anne, Glenn's legacy of love, wisdom, and laughter continues to live on through his family.

Glenn will be remembered as a man who valued education, cherished his family, and extended a hand to those in need. A natural entertainer, he loved hosting memorable gatherings, especially on the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve, where his warmth and friendship brought people together in celebration. His life was guided by the belief that knowledge is meant to be shared and that joy multiplies when celebrated with others.

The family would like to thank the wonderful nursing staffs at Legacy Village and Zions Way in St. George for their excellent care and kindness in Glenn's final months. You were truly his angels on earth.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on October 10, 2025 in Coalville, Utah, where family and friends are invited to one final cookout to honor Glenn's remarkable life and enduring legacy.
