IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Golda Abbott
Hicken
September 14, 1927 – December 30, 2023
St. George, Utah – Golda Abbott Hicken passed away peacefully in her home on the evening of December 30, 2023, at the age of 96. She was born September 14, 1927, to Stephen Oscar and Mary Hughes Abbott in St. George, Utah. She was the oldest of five siblings.
Golda was raised in Mesquite, Nevada where her father was the Deputy Sheriff for 23 years. She met Rodney Colton, and they were married October 10, 1949, and made their home in Las Vegas, Neveda. After Rod passed away in June of 1974, Golda moved back to Mesquite, Nevada to be her parents care giver until they passed on. She remained there until she met Clarvid "Sunny" Lewis, they were married March 6, 1990, and from there they moved to Sunny's farm in Moapa Valley where they raised cattle and the best cantaloupes around the county. After Sunny passed away in April of 1994, Golda moved to St. George, Utah, where she built herself a home in Winchester Hills. While playing Bingo in Mesquite, Nevada she met Joseph Hicken, they hit it off and were soon wed on April 29, 1997. Golda and Joe were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were called to serve as Missionaries at the Welfare Services Department at the St. George Bishops Storehouse. Joe preceded her in death April 11, 2017.
Golda was the kindest, most caring, selfless, talented, giving person. She touched many hearts and if you were lucky enough to know her you more than likely received something she made by hand. She was a perfectionist and was always working on some craft of project, her greatest satisfaction was giving to others.
Golda is the last survivor of seven siblings. She is survived by many nieces and nephews that loved her very much and will deeply miss her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Mary Abbott; three brothers: Stephen (stillborn), Otis and Gerald Abbott; three sisters: Ila Abbott, Mazie Atchison and Beverly Bowler.
The family would like to thank Dixie Hospice for their kind and compassionate care and to Rita Barnum and Sandra Leavitt for being Golda's caretakers for the last few years, which made it possible for her to stay in her home.
