Gordon Lowell
Bennett
January 26, 1937 – January 26, 2015
Gordon Lowell Bennett, 78, of St. George, Utah, passed away peacefully on his birthday, January 26, 2015. He was born in Hinkley, Utah, the eldest of five boys, to Lowell Rex Bennett and Hope Fae Hilton Bennett.
Gordon attended Brigham Young University, where he played basketball and led the marching band. It was there he met his beloved wife, Sharron Faye Hansen. They were later married in the Salt Lake Temple and went on to build a beautiful life together, raising four children over the next sixteen years.
He proudly served in the Utah National Guard and was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Gordon's greatest joy was found in the outdoors. He loved boating, waterskiing, riding his motorcycle cross-country, golfing, and exploring the mountains and deserts he cherished. A gifted photographer, he captured the beauty of the natural world through his lens. He lived in both Utah and Arizona before settling in St. George, where he felt most at peace.
A sharp and driven businessman, Gordon established Bennett Typewriter Company in downtown Salt Lake City. He later found success in automobile sales, working with Carlson Cadillac and other dealerships across Utah. His favorite professional endeavor, however, was driving tourist buses through Zion National Park. He delighted in sharing his passion for nature with visitors, often stopping the bus to point out deer and other wildlife.
Gordon is survived by his children: Kristen Gina Cavasos, Juliette Bennett, Danielle Bennett, and Christopher Gordon Bennett; grandchildren: Melinda Rae Cavasos, Ashley Heather Archer, Braeden Ryan Beckstrand, and Britinni Laine Rodrigues; siblings: Lynn Hilton Bennett and Robert Dean Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Hope Bennett; and brothers: Ronald Rex and Bruce Lowell.
Gordon will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his deep love of family and nature, and his ability to find joy and beauty in everyday life.
