Obituary

Cedar City, UT - Grant Cartis Tucker returned home to his Heavenly father on October 26, 2009 where he was met by his eternal companion Larue and his sons in a joyful reunion. Grant was born March 3, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Guy Cartis and Florence Eliza Jensen Tucker, the oldest of four children. His family moved to Cedar City, Utah where he attended elementary and high school and graduated from BAC now SUU. In 1946 Grant was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Brazil. He served for three years and upon his return home he met his eternal companion Larue Sheeley. They were married June 10, 1949 in the St. George LDS Temple and they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. A member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Grant served in many capacities and positions and he, along with his wife raised their family to love and serve the Lord in all things. Grant owned and worked in coal mines from the early 1940's until 1964 when the mines in southern Utah closed. He was instrumental in bringing the first coal cleaning plant to Utah. After the mines closed he worked as an insurance adjuster for several years and then worked for H&R Block before going out on his own in his own tax business which he worked in until 2007. He is survived by four daughters, Clarisse (James) Lunt- Cedar City, UT, Tanya Tucker- Ogden, UT, Kathy Tucker- St. George, UT, and Helen (Ted) Boyack - Las Vegas, NV. Grandchildren, Shona (Gerald) Early, Jessica (Brandon) Hathcock, Rebecca Lunt, David James Lunt, Brittney Boyack, Bailey Boyack. Great Grandchildren, Cole Early, Ashley Early, Riley Hathcock, Gage Hathcock. Sister Lois A. Thomas and brother Floyd J. Tucker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Larue, sons, Tim Sheeley Tucker and Keith Sheeley Tucker, parents, brother Alan Tucker, Sister-in -Law, Coleen M. Tucker, Brother-in-Law, John Thomas and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington Stake Center, 200 West Brigham Rd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 30, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah and on Saturday, October 31, 2009 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery, Cedar City, Utah following services. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
