Obituary

Washington, Utah - Greta Polson Hirschi, age 80, passed away peacefully Monday, August 1, 2011 surrounded by her children. She was born December 20, 1930 in Jameston, Idaho to Vernal and Elma Polson, the fourth of six children. She was sealed to Gene Hirschi April 30, 1952 in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Greta was raised in Shelley and Tetonia, Idaho. She attended the University of Utah and Ricks College. Gene and Greta raised a family of seven children; four daughters and three sons. Greta was always the heart of their home. She was a supportive, loving wife and a full-time, devoted mother, always adding a touch of humor and fun to life. Greta served faithfully in her home and community and enjoyed many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gene and Greta were called to serve a mission in the West Indies and a second mission in Guam. Greta loved being involved in her childrens and grandchildrens lives. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, sewing, camping and traveling. In her later years, she spent many hours serving in the temple. Greta is survived by her children: Sheila (George) Ward of Washington, Utah; Sandra (Kelly) Dyer of Ogden, Utah; Brenna (Lamar) Woodbury of Washington, Utah (currently serving a mission in Brazil); David (Cindy) Hirschi of Washington, Utah; Gena (Kevin) Marcum of Seattle, Washington; Lynn (Leslie) Hirschi of Sandy, Utah; Ryan (Raylinda) Hirschi of Washington, Utah; 32 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and sisters: Theda Hirschi, Nina Green and Beverly Cox. Greta was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hirschi; parents, Vernal and Elma Polson; brother, Jack Polson; sister, Mary McKenna; and granddaughter, Deslee Ann Woodbury. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Washington LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 82 North Main Street, Washington, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Chapel. Interment will follow at the Washington City Cemetery.
