Obituary

Guy Warren Bennett, was born in Fairmont Township, Pennsylvania, to Howard W. Bennett and Bessie Smith Bennett, on October 4, 1935. Guy passed away peacefully from natural causes, January 3, 2016 in his home, surrounded by his family.

When he was 13 he moved with his family to Dragerton, Utah. He attended school there. In 1952 he joined the Navy at the tender age of 17. He was a Third Classman, serving on the crash crew as a Damage Control man. He served in Guam for 18 months during the Korean War. He then transferred to San Diego for the remaining 30 months of his career in the Navy.

During one of his leaves from the Navy, he went back home to Dragerton. He met Elva Rae Bennett while she was walking bare footed in the rain, with a friend. Guy and his friend, Billy Flynn stopped and picked the two beautiful girls up and that is how their love story began. Once Guy got back from Guam and was stationed in San Diego, Elva moved to California to live with her aunt and uncle and continue to grow their love story. They married just a few short days after Guy's discharge from the Navy. October 22, 1956, was the day they married and committed to a life time of love together. This love story produced three daughters, Nancy, Cindy and Fawn. We have been a family that has never given up on each other, we have stood by each other through every trial that has come our way. Dad and Mom wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for showing us what unconditional love is.

They moved to Moab, Utah the day of the marriage and Guy began working that night at Atlas Uranium Corporation. His career at Atlas lasted for 16 ½ years. When he was hired they started him at $1.87 an hour, before he had begun work he got a raise to $2.05 an hour. He worked in the Uranium mill, a big portion of his career there. He eventually had the opportunity to become a warehouse man and then a purchasing agent. After leaving Atlas, Guy spent many years at uranium mines in Utah as a purchasing agent. The Uranium economy bottomed out and mines closed, Guy went to Nevada where he was a purchasing agent for the Gold Mines. He retired in 1998 while living in Winnemucca, Nevada. We were blessed when they moved to St. George, Utah for retirement. Once again our family would be together.

Guy was an amazing artist, wood working was his passion, as well as stained glass art and jewelry making, he was equally good at all three. Guy was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife; Elva and his daughter; Fawn. He is survived by two daughters; Nancy Bennett, Cindy (Matt) Mathews, three grandchildren; Jacob McCloughan, Brandon (Kim) Mathews and Meagan (Shawn) Snow, all from St. George, Utah. He is also survived by the loves of his life, his six great-grandchildren; Kaden Guy, Madison, Sammie, Abbie, Kamry and Caleb. They adored him as much as he adored them. Guy is a man of God, he lived his life by example, a very courageous and good example.

A memorial service will be held on January 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel located at 288 West St. George Blvd. A graveside service will follow at the Tonaquint City Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, Utah.
