Obituary

St. George, Utah – O. Guy Humphries, 87, passed away September 18, 2023, peacefully at his home. He was born November 19, 1935, to Owen Gardiner Humphries and Mary Maud Wild. Guy grew up in American Fork, Utah. He attended American Fork High School where he played on the basketball, football, baseball, and track teams. Guy loved flying fishing and hunting. Guy served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Swiss-Austria Mission. Upon returning home Guy married Barbara Larsen on August 28, 1959.

Guy was a member of the National Guard, graduated from Brigham Young University and then he attended and graduated from Dental School at the University of Pacific in California (College of Physicians and Surgeons).

Prior to moving to St. George, Utah in 1978, Guy lived in San Francisco, California, Pleasanton, California, and Patterson, California.

Guy faithfully served his Heavenly Father keeping his focus centered on Jesus Christ and held many leadership and teaching positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including Bishop, Branch President, High Priests and Primary teacher.

A few years after having to say farewell to his wife, Barbara, Guy was blessed and introduced to Laurel.

On April 2, 2004, Guy married Laurel Fisher Jorgenson. Guy felt blessed to have found Laurel as a companion. She brought back the twinkle to his eye and joy into his life. Together they served a mission in Melbourne, Australia.

We are so grateful for Guy and Laurel's neighbors and ward family. Guy received so much love, support, and tender care from all of them.  They are a tender mercy that Heavenly Father placed in their lives.

Guy is survived by his wife, Laurel; children: Michael Guy (Lisa) Humphries, Diane (Abe) Young, JaNae (Kevin) Scheidle, Tami Al-Fokaikai, Todd (Megan) Jorgenson, Jodi (Cody) Thornley, Jeffrey (Lenee) Jorgenson, Amy (Lance) Leithead, and James (Stacy) Jorgenson. Guy and Laurel have 30 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

Guy is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Larsen; sister, Mariam Joy Humphries Iverson; grandson, Andersen Jasem Al-Fokaikai; David Jorgenson (son of Laurel); and his parents, Owen and Mary Humphries
