Obituary

St. George, Utah - Harold Martin Friedel Jr., age 91, passed away on January 8, 2012 in St. George, UT. He was born October 16, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and wonderful friend.

Hal graduated from Granite High School in 1939 and then graduated from the University of Utah in 1943. He served as a B-17 pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Barbara on July 28, 1944 in Phoenix, Arizona. They were later sealed in the St. George LDS Temple on June 13, 1964. During their marriage they lived in: Salt Lake City, UT; Las Vegas, NV for 44 years and in Bloomington, UT for the last 12 years.

Hal was committed to serving in each community where he lived. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts, PTA, and the Huntsman Senior Games. He worked at Clark County Wholesale, Nevada Test Site and for almost 20 years he was the Senior Purchasing Agent at the Las Vegas Convention Authority.

He was converted to the gospel and was baptized in 1962. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various capacities of the youth programs, ward financial clerk, and as an Ordinance Worker at the Las Vegas Temple for 9 ½ years and served with Barbara over the Empty Nesters for 10 years in Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother, wife Barbara; daughter, Nancy Donald; and three grandchildren. Remaining family members include: son, Marty Friedel (Sherry) of St. George; son, Tom Friedel (Julie) of St George; daughter, Debbie Daley (Mike) of Tucson, AZ; son, Jim Friedel (Michelle) of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Todd Friedel (Zetta); 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 3381 South Mulberry Drive, Bloomington. Visitations will be held Friday, evening , from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the chapel, prior to services. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 South Dixie Drive, St. George, UT. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221.
