St. George, Utah - Harold Blaine Johnson, 89, passed away peacefully Friday, July 13, 2012, at his home in St. George, Utah. He was born October 26, 1922, in Salem, Idaho, to Willard and Lillian Nielsen Johnson. He was raised and attended schools in Sugar City, Idaho. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Blaine married Shirley Herrick in 1947. They raised their four children on the family farm in Salem, Idaho. In 1964, he and his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was employed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency at the Nevada Test Site. After retiring in 1981, he and Shirley moved to St. George, Utah. Blaine enjoyed expressing his creative nature and mechanical abilities building several custom homes and restoring old cars. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Blaine is survived by his wife, Shirley Johnson; children, Christy Spezzano, Scott (Ann) Johnson, and Bob (Jan) Johnson; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Boyd Johnson, and granddaughter, Holly Johnson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, prior to services, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery.
