Schillander Erskine
November 15, 1923 – June 7, 2012
St. George, Utah - Harriet Jean Erskine completed her life of service and steadfast faith when she passed away June 7, 2012 at the age of 88. She was born November 15, 1923, in Wenatchee, Washington to Ernest Fredrick and Harriett Veronica Halversen Shillander who taught her the virtues of faith love and service. Harriet grew up in the Wenatchee and Seattle Washington area, graduating From Queen Ann High School in Seattle, Washington.
Harriet Jean Shillander and Ralph Stanley Erskine were married on Sept 12, 1941, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Ralph and Harriet celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in Sept. 2011. They loved each other deeply. Harriet and Ralph enjoyed a mission to the Navajo reservation in Montezuma Creek, Utah. They served many other missions together the last one being ordinances workers in the St. George LDS Temple for ten years.
Harriet was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions including Stake Young Women's President and Ward Relief Society Presidency's. Thru her works in Relief Society she expressed great compassion for others and gave many hours of service in her other church callings.
Harriet enjoyed doing genealogy and putting together family history books for each member of her family. She also enjoyed crafts, handwork, sewing etc. She loved music, played the piano and sang in the ward choirs.
Harriet was a kind and loving mother to six children and two nieces. Harriet is survived by her children: Karen Brown, St. George, Lynn (Bryan) Burt, Atlanta, Georgia, Scott(Connie) Bountiful, Utah, Gregg (Kelly), Sandy, Utah, Jerry (Suzanne), Punta Gordo, Florida, and Jeannie (Randy) Childs, Sandy, Utah; and nieces Julee (Robert) Jensen and Judee Erskine. Harriet's legacy was 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph and grandson, Garrison Childs.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff Zion's Way Hospices, and Ridgeview Gardens Assisted Living, for the tender loving and dignified manner in which they cared for Mother in the final weeks.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, at 10:00 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
