St. George, Utah – Harry Ferguson Gracie passed away of natural causes at his home at the Retreat at Sunbrook on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was 92.
Harry was born September 30, 1929, in Sceptre, Saskatchewan, Canada to Henry and Agnes Gracie (both deceased). Upon his high school graduation in 1948, he left Sceptre to pursue a career in accounting.
Harry had met already Marjorie Down in 1947; by 1952 they married. By then, both Harry and Marjorie were employed by Marathon Paper Mills of Canada in Marathon, Ontario. In 1957 their first daughter, Elizabeth, was born; their second daughter, Ivy, was born in 1960. In 1964 the family moved to Wisconsin, where Harry and Marjorie remained until Harry's retirement from Weyerhaeuser Company in 1993. Marjorie and Harry retired to St. George, Utah where they enjoyed over 30 years of sunshine, warm winters, golf, and a rewarding church and social life.
Harry was natural athlete, excelling at baseball, hockey, tennis, and golf. He played hockey until his mid-sixties and golfed well into his 80s. He was a music lover and enjoyed creating YouTube presentations of musically themed playlists featuring films and photos of exotic locales. Harry was an early adopter of computer technology and enjoyed staying on top of the latest advancements in the industry. He kept up with current events, politics and the economy and always welcomed spirited discussions about those topics. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in St. George.
Harry is survived by his daughters: Elizabeth and Ivy (Mark Herman); and his granddaughter, Maureen Gracie Quinn.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Save the Children foundation.
