Obituary

Mesa, Arizona / St. George, Utah - Hazel Andersen Terry, 94, passed away January 12, 2012 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born to John Christian Andersen and De Sena Sorensen Andersen on August 28, 1917 in Arbon Valley, Idaho. She married Rex Deloss Terry November 3, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1997. Hazel lived and worked in Rhode Island while Rex was in the Navy serving in WWII. After the war, they lived in Pocatello, Idaho, Las Vegas, Nevada, and St. George, Utah. After Rex's passing, she lived in Mesa, Arizona.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She loved all of her family and extended family. Hazel was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings and was a visiting teacher until she passed. For many years, she worked in leadership positions in the Primary organization where her love for scouting developed and grew, earning her the Silver Fawn award, the highest award given to women in scouting. This award is no longer given.

In her youth, she served honorably as a missionary in the Spanish-American Mission. She and her eternal companion, Rex dedicated the latter part of their lives together serving four full time missions teaching the Gospel to Native Americans in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.

She is survived by her children: Marie Alane Petersen (Reed Kay), John Malvin Terry (Nancy), and Peggy Lynette Barker (Claude). She was deeply loved by her 19 grand children, 24 great-grand children, her brother, Norman Andersen, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Clara LDS 4 th Ward Chapel, 1706 Desert Dawn Drive, Santa Clara, Utah. Friends and family may call Tuesday, prior to services, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be beside her beloved Rex in the St. George City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221. In lieu of flowers, mother would hope for donations to the Boy Scouts of America.
