Obituary

Henderson, NV - Formerly of St. George, Utah, Hazel Whittaker passed away peacefully in the home she shared with her granddaughter Sue Carrell and her family on February 12, 2012 in Henderson, Nevada. She was 90 years old.

Hazel was born on September 13, 1921 in Sterling Colorado. She married Kenneth James Whittaker in 1937 and was married for 51 years until Kenneth's death in 1988. She raised 4 children and was a devoted wife and mother. Hazel worked for a period at the Adams County School District in Commerce City, Colorado, but her main passion was being a homemaker for her family. Hazel enjoyed bowling, playing cards, Badminton and Jarts, canning, making jelly and forever telling cute jokes. She loved gardening and growing beautiful flowers, especially yellow roses.

Hazel and her husband Ken were among the founding members of the Hurricane First Southern Baptist Church. She was the last surviving member of a family of 8 children and will be dearly missed.

Hazel is survived by her daughter Margaret (Peggy) Westby and son in law Gordon Westby of Canyon Lake, California, daughter Carol Zachow and son in law Brice Zachow of Las Vegas, Nevada, and son Steve Whittaker of La Verkin, Utah. She has 10 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth James Whittaker, her son Kenneth (Jim) James Whittaker Jr. and her great-great grandson Tobias Yon Mallo.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 2:00 pm, with a visitation prior beginning at 1:00 pm, at Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary located at 140 N. Main in Hurricane, Utah. Interment will be in the La Verkin Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the First Southern Baptist Church at 1565 W. State St. Hurricane, Utah.
