LaVerkin, Utah – On the morning of August 14, 2023, Helen Mae Baker Howard, our beloved mother, grandma, aunt, friend, and daughter of God, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old.

Helen was born to the late James Roy Baker and Viola Ester St. Germain on May 26, 1935, in Denver, Colorado. She married her childhood sweetheart, Dayne Holt Howard on October 22, 1950, in Carson City, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George Temple on October 16, 1951.

Helen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many church callings. She loved teaching the primary children. She was a Young Women's President for several years as well as being in the Relief Society Presidency.

Helen worked at Zions Bank for 15 years. At 50 years of age, she went back to school to become a Certified Massage Therapist and loved it. Her grandchildren adored spending time with her painting ceramics in her adorable studio. She was an avid reader and loved the challenge of Reader's Digest crossword puzzles. She loved games, especially scrabble and pinochle. She enjoyed her family and could not wait for her grandchildren to visit. She has a great sense of humor. She loved to take the grandkids to the dollar store, play word and card games, watch movies, drink Pero and have sleepovers.

Helen is survived by her seven children and their spouses: Karla (Richard) Wedig, Dr. David (Cindy) Howard, Kathi (Gordon) Gunn, Kim Howard, Danny (Sheri) Howard, Dr. Douglas (Susie) Howard, and Devon (Finita) Howard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dayne Holt Howard; son, Dennis Howard; and granddaughter, Adrianne Wedig Harmer.

Our dear mother is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 113 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and 57 step grandchildren. Leaving a posterity of 231 plus their spouses.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 21, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Sunday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Monday, prior to services, at 9 am, both at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Winsor Family Cemetery, Enterprise, Utah.

The family would like to thank Dan and Sheri Howard and their children for taking care of mom for the last 5 years in their home. We all appreciate and are thankful for the excellent care and love given to our mom.
