St. George, Utah - Helen Elizabeth Cardno Boberg, 89, passed away at Beehive Homes on August 18, 2015. She was born at home in Alonsa, Manitoba, Canada on November 25, 1925 to Cathelene Seale and Alexander Cardno. She was the oldest of four daughters. Helen attended grade school in Alonsa, and then received her nursing degree from the University of Manitoba. She was baptized and joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 22. She traveled alone to Salt Lake City in April 1952, where she soon met Richard Warren Boberg. They were married on August 22, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Helen loved being a nurse and worked in the nursing field for over 50 years. Her favorite was Labor and Delivery. She and Richard lived in Midvale, Utah for 47 years. They took care of many foster children, and then adopted their five children: David Boberg (deceased), Cynthia (Doug) Hawker, Elizabeth (Dave) Jones, Donald Boberg, and her "Special Angel" Cathelene Boberg (deceased). Helen loved the gospel, and had many church callings including Primary, Sunday School, and Cub Scouting. Helen and Richard were Stake missionaries, and also served in the Jordan River Temple. She loved writing poetry, and has had a few of her poems published. She was a great cook, and we all loved her Thanksgiving dinners. After her stroke in 1999, she and Richard moved to St. George, Utah. He preceded her in death in August of 2005. Helen is survived by her sisters: Jean, Mildred, and Dorothy, all still living in Canada; her six grandchildren: Scott, Tonya, Brad, Jessica, Vincent, and Shane; and 15 great-grandchildren. Helen has been living in Beehive Homes for 8 ½ years. She loved it there, and would always be joking and entertaining the staff. We would like to thank them for the wonderful care and friendship they have given her. We would like to thank the South Gate 2nd/3rd Ward Bishopric, Relief Society, and her Visiting teachers for the many kind visits and prayers on her behalf. We would also like to thank the staff at Applegate for their loving Hospice care the past 6 months. And a special Thank you to her great-granddaughter, MaKayla, for taking care of her the last few weeks. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary. Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery.
