Obituary

St. George, Utah - Helen Hyatt Crawford peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at her home in St George surrounded by family members. Helen was born on December 16, 1920 in Los Angeles, California to Gilbert Delos Hyatt and Mary LaVerna Holt Hyatt. She spent her youth in Parowan, Utah where she graduated from high school. She attended cosmetology school in Salt Lake City and worked periodically throughout her life as a hairdresser.

She married Daniel Boyd Crawford on November 1,1939 in the St George LDS Temple. They made their home in Cedar City and eventually had six children. She was dedicated and actively involved in the LDS church serving in many stake and ward callings including Relief Society President, teacher, secretary, dedicated visiting teacher and stake MIA camp director,

She was an excellent, loving and caring wife, mother, and homemaker; her family was most important to her. She will be remembered for her love of service and desire to help and ease the burdens of others. She worked occasionally as a hairdresser and for several years had a beauty shop in her home. She also assisted her husband with his car dealer business. She also enjoyed handiwork - sewing, embroidery, tatting, knitting and was innovative and creative. She was often described by those who knew and loved her as as being optimistic and cheerful.

She and her husband were called in 1987 to serve for three years as an LDS Mission President over the Hawaii Mission. In 1992 they again accepted a call as director of the Idaho Falls Temple Visitor Center. Returning from this mission they made their home in St George.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, three siblings, and two grandchildren. Helen is survived by their six children: B. Glen (Paula) Crawford and Alan H. (Gail) Crawford of Cedar City; Curtis H. (Anna) Crawford currently serving an LDS mission in Uruguay; Kerry D. (Diana) Crawford of Salt Lake; Gail (R. Lynn) Bunker and Renee (Michael B.) Stucki of St George; a sister LaWanna Hyatt Jones of Portland, Oregon; and a brother, Elson D (Shirley) Hyatt of Washington, Utah. As well as 121 grand, great, and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ridgeview Ward Chapel, 750 North 1000 West, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Monday, prior to services, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be at Tonaquint Cemetery.
