Obituary

St. George, Utah - Born July 5, 1928 in Westerly, Rhode Island to Stuart Cruickshank Jr., and Ella Wolstencroft Cruickshank, our Jean departed March 8, 2012 in her adopted home of St. George, Utah.

Jean put herself through the University of Rhode Island working at the Westerly Sun newspaper, and graduated in 1945. She was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at both the University of Rhode Island and Stonington High School (Connecticut), her favorite sports being softball and field hockey.

Upon graduation, Jean joined the U.S. Army as a medical technologist / physical therapist. She served 20 years, traveling to bases across the United States, Germany, and Japan. She was very proud to have climbed and skied Mount Fuji. Jean also participated in the All Service Golf Tournament, taking first place in 1971 caddied by her sister, Linda. Jean retired from the Army in 1971 a Lieutenant Colonel.

Jean joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1971 and was among the first to move to the golf community of Bloomington, St. George, Utah in 1972. She is remembered by Bloomington residents as the first to greet new families and the self-proclaimed "Ward Snoop" who could always tell you who had a baby, who had become engaged, and who was having a birthday. She knew all about the activities and honors of the youth, and published a newsletter to recognize them. Alongside her best friend, Bee Wood, Jean was a leader in the Church's genealogy, indexing, and name extraction programs until her death. She was a steadfast Macintosh Computer fan, a meticulous indexer, a loyal friend, a devoted patriot, an enthusiastic teacher, a proficient transcriber of Old English, and a strong, proud Scottish Lass.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Marjorie Ainsworth Cruickshank,;and friend, Bee Wood. She is survived by her sister, Linda Cruickshank Fracassini and her husband, John of Monroe, CT; niece, Jessica L. Fracassini Klugman and her husband, Antony of Ithaca, NY; nephew, Matthew J. Fracassini and his wife, Ellen Powell of NY, NY; a close-knit community of indexers; and her fan club: Team Jean.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bloomington LDS 4 th Ward Chapel, 3371 South Mulberry Drive, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be at Tonaquint Cemetery.
