Obituary

St. George, UT - Our beloved Helen Dorny Giberson Martin left this life surrounded by loved ones on January 21, 2010. She was born to parents Otto and Emilie Dorny on June 2, 1918. She was the seventh of ten children in the family. Helen graduated from South High School and Henager Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended the University of Utah and Northeastern University in Boston. Helen married Alphia Giberson on October 6, 1945. He died suddenly at the age of 33 in 1953. She married Robert Martin in New York City on February 11, 1955. They lived in many areas of the United States, including New York City, Boston, Washington D.C., San Francisco and Corpus Christi, making dear friends wherever they lived. They moved to St. George in 1980. They were members of the Bloomington Country Club for many years enjoying one of their favorite activities, golfing. Helen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many church positions. She was interested in and supported the arts wherever she lived. Helen was a volunteer at the St. George Art Museum for several years. Helen was happy and willing to serve those around her, especially the sick and the elderly, and was a great example of charity and love. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers Carl, Walter, Albert, Herbert and Lester, and sisters Elizabeth and Jean. She is survived by a sister, Ruth Dorny and brother Gordon (Audrea) Dorny. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. Friends may call on Saturday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary, prior to services. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
