Obituary

St. George, Utah - Horst was born January 2, 1941 in beautiful Schlagswig Von Holstein in northern Germany. His parents, Anne and Arthur Duesterwald and brother, Brent, predeceased him. Horst was married to Ann Richardson who died of cancer with Horst attending to Ann throughout her long illness.

Ann and Horst are survived by their two sons, Terry, married to Jennifer and Brian, married to Nadine. Both sons and four grandchildren; Kyle, Steven, Connor and Ciara, live in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In February 1989, while on vacation in the Bahamas, Horst and his current wife, Rose Marie met, fell in love, and were married in Vancouver three months later. Rose Marie was by his side during his last brave moments and will keep him in her heart forever. Horst is survived by two stepdaughters Patricia and Susan. Patricia is married to Greg Kempton, and they have two sons; Jack, and Pierce.

Horst had wonderful memories of his childhood in Germany. He enjoyed soccer, skiing, and he played the flute in the school band. But his summers spent on a Danish farm were the most memorable. Even at such a young age he was able to help with chores and was rewarded by joining his hosts on their European adventures.

When he was 12 years old, Horst emigrated with his family to Canada. He eventually became a manager at Safeway Canada and retired in 1995, at which time the couple moved to Clearwater, Florida. The next move was Irvine, California followed by St. George, Utah. During this time Horst became an avid photographer and devoted to golf.

Horst is survived by his extended family his band of brothers in the TMUP golf group. He loved these guys, and I am told the feeling is mutual. Horst's photography can be accessed at: https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/horst-duesterwald

Horst and I met on a golf course, when put together to make a foursome. We enjoyed our company had a lot of laughs and made a golf date the following week. From then on, 2014 until late 2017, we tried to play often until I moved to Florida. We became such good friends and tried to play at least once a week. Our handicaps were very close so we generally played for a dime a hole. About a year later the bet went up to 25 cents a hole. We just had a great time every time.

I will miss Horst and all those great golf times and the cold Stella Artois after the round. I will miss his beautiful little grin, his pat on my back and strong hand shake when we met. I will miss the wonderful accolades he always said about is lovely wife Rose Marie.

Oh, guys and Rose Marie, I will also miss all those quarters he took from me.

As always Horst, you will remain my dearest friend.

To my TMUP friends, Rose Marie informed me too of Horst's passing. I was lucky enough to live across the street from Horst for a couple of years. He introduced me to our golf group and I personally know how much he enjoyed his association with all of you. Horst loved his time golfing, walking each day, his runs To Smith's, and of course, his car and wife. We will all miss him.

One of the nicest and gentle persons I've ever met. Struggled with health issues while with the TMUP group but was so resilient and positive. We all loved it when he returned to golf. I'm sure he shot 10 under today.

Miss you Already

Horst was a great friend and golf buddy. We all know there is a place in Heaven for Horst because if they don't take him the rest of us don't have a chance. Peace to you Horst.

What a tremendous loss. I'm sorry for the pain he endured with hardly a complaint and for the insidious nature of the disease that took him. The world is less joyful today.

What a kind and gentle soul we lost today! Going forward we will find comfort in our golf experiences with our beloved compatriot, Horst—in time we will find peace, as well! May he RIP, and may his beloved family find comfort in the beautiful memories he created here on earth!🙏

So sorry to get the news of Horst's passing. Reading the many tributes posted regarding Horst, and how everyone cherished his friendship, eased some of the sadness felt by me. I know he's in a better place, with no more pain and suffering. He was one special man. R.I.P.

The one thing I really remember about Horst, other than him being quite resolved if even having a bad day at golf....was anytime he first saw you he would walk up shake your hand and ask how you were doing? He also enjoyed a little ribbing. He will be greatly missed!

Host was a genuine personable man. No matter the circumstance he would always put your well being and needs first. Always a smile, handshake and warm genuine welcome. Even in his struggle he kept it quiet and showed concern for others first. He will be missed greatly.

I am saddened to hear that Horst passed away. He was always a positive person even though you knew he was going through a lot of personal health issues. He was one of the genuinely good guys.

Randy McNees

When I first joined the group close to 4 years ago, I encountered a troop of men that I wanted to be a part of, they exhibited the qualities that I enjoy being around. There was one man who stood out to me. I could tell he was a special soul, it was Horst...he asked me how I was doing and he meant it, I could feel the compassion he had for everyone he met. Through all the medical issues he had, through all the procedures he endured, he suffered through them alone keeping those negative aspects of his life hidden from his friends, he only wanted to talk about his golf game and how you were doing.

I know that he enjoyed playing golf, I know that he was genuine in his love for the guys he encountered each week.

Horst got a lot from our group...but we got so much more.

Of course we miss him, but he leaves us with such strong memories of a good and honest friend.

He endeavored to persevere, he set an example for all of us to admire and he was just fun to be around.

Rest in Peace our friend Horst.

Horst prayer

My God is my caddie

I shall not want.

He guideth my drives straight down the

lush green fairways.

He leadeth me safely across

still water hazards,

He restoreth my approach shots.

He leadeth me in the paths of accuracy for my games sake.

Yea though I chip through the rough in the shadows of sand traps,

I will fear no boogies for you are with me

in the presence of my TMUP friends.

He anointed my head with confidence,

My cup runneth over.

Surely birdies and even Eagles shall follow me all the rounds of my eternal life,

And I will always score in the low 70's

As I will dwell in the house of the

Lord forever.

Amen
