St. George, Utah-
Ilean Clifton passed away at her daughter's home with family around her. She was born on June 22, 1921 in Aurora, Utah to Jesse and Effie Scovil. She was one of five children. Mother would tend a beet field with her brothers and say she would leave on a bus the minute she graduated from high school. She left with a girlfriend and met her future husband at a dance. He was raised in Arkansas and joined the Navy. He said he spotted mother as she was the most beautiful girl at the dance. They had one child, a daughter.
Dad was in the Navy and it was during the war. Mother took care of everything, it would be just the two of us for months at a time. Our family was together during the four years spent in Hawaii.
The family finished dad's tour of duty in Hawaii and returned to southern California. Dad retired from 22 years in the Navy and following several moves settled in southern California working as a purchasing agent for a defense plant in Long Beach, CA. Mother attended beauty school and worked as a beautician for several years.
Mother's greatest joy was her daughter and grandchildren. She made every house the family lived in, a home and everyone who entered it felt loved. She was a loving, giving mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend. She loved to cook and bake and have company and during the past three years she was ill, said she dreamt she would be in the kitchen cooking.
Mother is survived by her brother, Ivan Scovil (Valene); daughter, Sheila A. Curl (Bill); three grandchildren: Karen Cashin (Darrell), Ryan Hefley (Kristi) and Laura Kate Dalley (Clint); nine great – grandchildren: Jenna Corry (Jeff), Kellie Lawson (Justin), Scott Heinrich (Stephanie), Paige Hefley, Kirrin Hefley (fiancé Jake), Jade Hefley, Brooke Dalley (Tyler), Matthew Dalley and Carson Dalley; and seven great–great–grandchildren; Dallin Corry, Allison Corry, Parker Corry, Connor Thayer, Mikaela Thayer, Aubrey Cox and Nathan Cox.
The family wishes to express our love and appreciation to Applegate Hospice (Diana Lason, Ann, Nikkol and Greg.) They are truly angels and gave loving care to mother and our family.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
