IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ione D
Bonzo
August 13, 1935 – March 23, 2025
Cedar City, Utah – Ione D. Bonzo, 89, died March 23, 2025, on a peaceful calm spring Sunday morning. She was born August 13, 1935, in Parowan, Utah to Oleen J. Davis and Rachel Robinson Davis. At the age of one she moved to Cedar City where she proudly called home her entire life. She graduated from Cedar High School. She married David Keith Bonzo on November 16, 1952, in Pioche, Nevada.
Ione and David lived a simple life in their little home on 700 West that they called their castle and raised their five boys.
In her younger years she worked at the turkey plant and Cedar Laundry. She worked at Valley View Medical Center in many capacities from 1963 to 2013. She received a lifetime service award from the hospital as the longest serving employee at that time. She enjoyed creating relationships with many associates while working at the old and new hospitals.
Ione served in the Church for over 20 years in the Cub Scout Program, as a Primary President, a dedicated visiting teacher and in the Relief Society. She enjoyed attending the St. George Temple for many years until her health would not allow her to attend any longer.
Ione's greatest joy was her five boys, her grandchildren, a clean house and serving others. She served many people and cared for others. She was famous for sending cards to her children and grandchildren on their birthday and many other occasions. She enjoyed making her homemade chicken noodles, sausage soup and pies. Ione will always be remembered as the hardest working and honest person we knew.
Ione loved talking on the phone especially to her children, grandchildren, siblings and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, David K.; her son, David Paul; her parents; and six siblings. She is survived by her sons: Ricky (Wendy) of Enoch, UT, Eric (Lisa) of Enoch, UT, Todd (Lorie) of St. George, UT and Scott of Salt Lake City, UT; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Susan Bonzo of Cedar City, UT and Patricia Close of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Mazel Kay Davis of Cedar City, UT; and sister Charlotte Weidemann of Cedar City, UT.
The family would like to thank the administration and nursing staff at Stonehenge Assisted Living for their exceptional and loving care of our mother.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar City 4th Ward Chapel, 500 West 400 North, Cedar City, Utah. A viewing will be held Saturday, prior to services, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery located at 685 North Main Street.
