St. George, UT - Irene M. Amoroso, 93, passed away peacefully at her home Monday evening August 10, 2009. She was born Irene Mae Gabribell on June 10, 1916 in Paterson, New Jersey to Anna (Onorato) and Michael Garibell the third of six children and the last of her original family to enter the gates of heaven. Irene grew up in Paterson, N.J., excelling in school, sports, and dancing. She completed high school and two years of business school, upon graduation obtaining a secretarial job with Joseph J. Brunetti Construction. Almost immediately she was made Mr. Brunettis private secretary and worked in that position for over 20 years. She met and married her one and only Frank J. Amoroso from Bogata, N.J., in 1942 and they both moved (with their son - Robert) to a new home in Upper Saddle River, N.J., in 1951. Subsequent to the move, she obtained local employment as a private secretary to a medical book publisher and finally as a paralegal for MacFall and Fishler, P.C., in Ridgewood, N.J. Mom loved to work and did so until the age of 72 when she and Dad moved to Lakehurst, N.J., to retire in 1985. My Dad, with his love of the West from his tour as an MP stationed in Colorado Springs during WWII, initiated a move to St. George in 1991 where they lived until Dad passed away in December 1993. Mom had suffered from TIAs for the last 15 years of her life - one which left her blind in one eye prior to moving to St. George. Another TIA left her completely blind in 1998 and required her son to also move to St. George to care for her. While in St. George and before total blindness, Mom worked as a volunteer at the old campus of Dixie Regional Medical Center where she made many good friends. She was an active member of the St. George Roman Catholic Church which she attended regularly, assisting with information distribution at the 9:00 a.m., Sunday Mass. While attending church she met her most wonderful friend Lee Richard Warren (aka Flagman) with whom she pursued a loving relationship until her death. Irene is survived by her son Robert of St. George; two grandchildren: Lori A. Debroisse of Cheshire, CT., and David M. Amoroso of Billings, MT; and one great grandchild: Gabriella H. Debroisse. She leaves all friends and relatives with a sense of loss, but with the knowledge that she is in a much better place, ready to serve the Lord. Many thanks to all those angels of Hospice Alliance who attended to her in her final three weeks of earthbound existence and made her passing so comfortable. Arrangements entrusted to Metcalf Mortuary with a funeral service to be held at the St. George Roman Catholic Church, 259 W. 200 N., at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 29, 2009. Burial of her ashes will be a semi-private short service at Tonaquint Cemetery at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 31, 2009. No flowers please, donations to Hospice Alliance or a local pet shelter/ sanctuary in her name would be appreciated. A Dancing Shape - - - An Image Gay!
