Obituary

Hurricane, UT - Irene Tomsik Morgan Chamberlin, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her daughters home, Feb.21, 2010, 25 days after surgery. Irene Tomsik was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Washington, Utah. the fifth of eight children, born to Hannah ODeady and Ludwig Albert Tomsik.. Irenes mother, Hannah, was born in Silver Reef and attended the old rock schoolhouse in Harrisburg, Ut. and later taught school there before she married. Her grandparents, Jeremiah ODeady and Hannah Goddard (Pace, Woodard, ODeady, Jolley) met at Silver Reef, Ut., he a miner from Ireland, and she a twice widowed seamstress. Irene's Grandma Jolleys home is still standing on Telegraph Rd. in Washington, Ut. Irene was raised in Milford, and then her family moved to Las Vegas, NV. in 1930 to work on the Hoover Dam during the depression. She graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1938, being very active in the Art Guild, and performing on stage as an acrobatic tap dancer. In 1939 she married Eddie Morgan in the Salt Lake Temple. He built their first home in Las Vegas, and they had 4 children, Eddie, Bobby, Polly and Ginny, and later divorced. She married James Ralph Chamberlin in St. George Temple in 1972, adding Jeannine and Kathy to make 6 children. They spent many wonderful years together visiting family celebrations, and working in the St. George Temple from 1975 to 1986 as temple statisticians, taking count of every ward and branch in the world who visited there. They also helped support numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews on their missions. Irene was very talented, and has sewn hundreds of dresses in her lifetime. She worked many years at Arions Bridal Shop in Las Vegas. Irene loved to sew flower dresses there, and has sewn numerous wedding and bridesmaid dresses for family and friends throughout the years.. Irene was also known for her artistic talents. She also served in many callings in the L.D.S. church, loving to teach best. In 2001 she moved to Hurricane, Ut. To live with her daughter Polly, and loved this little town and the people in it. In August 2009, we celebrated her 90th birthday party. 198 family & friends from 7 states attended to honor this woman who touched so many lives. Her grandchildren put on a 90-minute talent show, with Irene the star, doing a tap dance from her wheelchair to Stars and Stripes Forever , that she had performed at about age 18, and remembered! She was known for her excellent memory. She is survived by her children, Eddie Morgan of Las Vegas, Nv., Bob (Karolyn) Morgan of Parowan, Ut., Polly (Joe) Winkle of Hurricane, Ut., Virginia (LeRoy) Chase of Henderson, Nv., Jeannine ( Art) Hardy of Sandy, Ut., Kathy (Martin) Heimlich of Salt Lake City, Ut., 39 grandchildren, 148 Great Grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, and never missed sending a birthday card and a dollar to each one every year. One sister, Marcella Pike of Tampa, Florida, also survives her. Irene was preceded in death by her loving husband Ralph, parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters, and 5 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Dr.Greg Last, Dr. DeSaibro, Dr. Meyers and Dr. Worwood for their loving and skilled care. Also to the excellent nurses and aids at DRMC on first west, and Gentiva Home Health care nurses, aids, and physical therapists for their excellent and tender care. A big thanks to Troy Swyers, who came whenever called to help with mom. Funeral services will be Friday, February. 26, 2010, at the Hurricane Stake Center, 677 South 700 West, Hurricane, UT at 2:00 p.m. Visitation prior to service, Friday, Feb 26, 12:30 to1:30 at the same location. Interment at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park 3401 Highland Dr. Salt Lake City. Sat. Feb. 27, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, (435) 673-4221.
