Obituary

Hurricane, Utah - Ivan Marshall Johnson, 96, peacefully passed away on April 12, 2014 at his home in Hurricane, Utah. He was the eighth of ten children born to Frank Tilton and Rhoda Emily Johnson. He was born in Short Creek, Arizona on February 7, 1918 on their family farm.

Ivan graduated from high school in Hurricane, Utah. He went on to attend school in Cedar City at the Branch Agricultural College, graduating in 1938. Ivan spent the next 8 years serving with the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey Team, during which time he met his sweetheart Margaret Tippetts in Wendover, Utah. After nine days of courting they were engaged and married that same year on December 27, 1940 in the St. George LDS Temple.

Hurricane has been home for the past 65 years. His occupation was that of a Plaster/Sheetrock Contractor. He was extremely honest in his dealings and expected the same from others. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he faithfully served in church callings among which many years were spent in the temple both as a worker and a patron. Ivan loved his family and showed it by providing the necessary things of life and teaching them "to pay their own way." We love you Dad and know that you are enjoying where you are and what you are doing. "Until we meet again."

Ivan is survived by his wife of 73 years, Margaret Tippetts Johnson; a son, Dean (Marcia) Johnson of Hurricane, Utah; three daughters: Joyce (Dennis) Church of Hurricane, Angela (Tom) Gentry of North Logan and Coleen (Bret) Sevy of St. George; two daughters-in-law: Julie Ann Johnson and Linda Lee Johnson, both of Hurricane; 35 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons: Jack Marshall Johnson and Michael Joseph Johnson; two grandsons: Sam Johnson and Brian Micha Justice; and a great-granddaughter, Paige Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane LDS Stake Center, 677 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery.
