Obituary

Enterprise, Utah - Our beloved father and grandfather, Ivin E Barlow, 92, passed away June 6, 2012 in St. George, Utah surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 1, 1919 in Enterprise, Utah to Ephraim and Roxie Truman Barlow. Most of his life was spent in Enterprise as a farmer and John Deere equipment dealer. Following graduation form Enterprise High School, he attended Dixie Jr. College for one year and then returned home to work and to date his high school sweetheart, Maxine Hunt. They were later married in the St. George LDS Temple on November 27, 1940. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Crestline, Nevada where Ivin worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. After a short stay at Crestline, he moved his wife and small child back to Enterprise where he worked with his father on the family farm.

With the U.S. entrance into World War II, Ivin was called to serve his country in the Army and was shipped to Korea where he was serving when the war ended. Returning from the war, he purchased his fathers farm and began his lifelong love of farming. To help meet the needs of a growing family, he took a second job as the bookkeeper for the Utah Potato Growers, but it was on the farm where he raised his six children. After the family was raised, he purchased Crossroads Equipment Company, a John Deere dealership at Beryl and later opened a branch in St. George. With hard work and the help of mom and three sons, they built a successful business.

Ivin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After serving as the Enterprise Ward Clerk, he was called as the first bishop of the newly created Enterprise 1 st Ward when the Enterprise Ward was divided. In 1971, he and Mother were called as Ordinance Workers at the St. George LDS Temple where they served faithfully until Ivin was called as a Sealer at the Temple in 1985. He served there until 2009 when he was released to care for his beloved wife who passed away August 30, 2011.

Along with serving his country, he also served his community and the county. He served as Major of Enterprise, as a Washington County Commissioner and on the Washington County Water Board.

Ivin is survived by his children: Dale (Verus) Barlow of St. George, Utah, Linda (Al) Keeler of Washington, Utah, Les (Mary Ann) Barlow, Ralph (Carla) Barlow, and David (VaNae) Barlow, all of Enterprise, Utah; daughter-in-law, Lynette Barlow-McNeil of St. George, Utah; 29 grandchildren; and 74 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Maxine, his loving wife of 70 years; parents, Ephriam and Roxie; children: Bradley E and Annette; grandchildren: Eric and Jason Barlow; and great-grandson, Leslie Barlow.
