IN LOVING MEMORY OF
J. Grant
Hacking
July 26, 1946 – March 23, 2023
St. George, Utah - J. Grant Hacking, 76, passed away peacefully at home in St. George, UT with his beloved wife and daughter by his side on March 23, 2023, after a short battle with a brain tumor. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Hacking and two brothers, Robert and Paul Hacking.
Grant was born in Roosevelt, Utah. He grew up in Brigham City, where he found himself at the center of many shenanigans but spent most of his energy trying to win over the love of his life, Annette Cook. He served a two-year mission in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Utah State University, served as the Commander of an Army Reserve Unit and finally convinced Annette to marry him. They were married in the Logan Temple in 1969.
Grant and Annette were blessed with four boys before welcoming their youngest, a daughter, into their family. Family was the most important thing to Grant and their home was always full of love and adventure. Their children were raised in Utah, Colorado, and Pennsylvania. He loved reading good books, being in the outdoors, and spending time with his family.
He was devoted to his Savior and would serve whenever the call came. He was a beloved bishop and lifted those around him by leading with love and laughter. He served as a Stake President and was called to be the Mission President in the Colombia, Bogota North Mission. He and Annette served as Temple Missionaries in the Dominican Republic.
Grant always sought to "Dream the Impossible Dream" and touched many lives for the better as he followed those dreams. Grant's position as General Manager of Latin America for Victaulic Company of America enabled him and Annette to live in Chile and Puerto Rico for 9 years. They continued to surround themselves with the beautiful people of Latin America and made many friends along the way. He will be missed by many people from many countries.
Grant is survived by his wife of 53 years, Annette; his five children: Robert (Holly), Brad (Emily), Tyler (Leilani), Jay (Natalie), Angela (Devan); 20 grandchildren who all think they were his favorite; brother, David Hacking; and sisters: Margaret Pounder and Maryelen Brown.
