Obituary

Hurricane, Utah - Jack Stratton Sullivan, age 70, passed from this life on November 25, 2013 in Hurricane, UT from natural causes. He was born in Hurricane, Utah on March 13, 1943 to Cecil and Ila Stratton Sullivan.

Jack was raised in Hurricane, Utah with his 4 brothers Dwayne, Ferrel, Gerald, and Mike and his sister Ila Dawn. He obtained an Associates degree from Dixie College, a Bachelors degree from Southern Utah State College, and a Masters of Education from UNLV. He also served honorably in the Army National Guard.

Jack served a mission for the LDS church in the North Great Lakes mission from 1963-1965 and remained a faithful member of the church throughout his life. He held several positions in his local ward and was devoted to serving our Heavenly Father.

Jack lived in various cities throughout Utah while he completed his education and began his teaching career. He returned to his hometown of Hurricane where he raised his family and began working as a teacher for Littlefield Elementary School in Littlefield, Arizona. A career educator of over 30 years, he loved his students and the opportunity to positively impact the lives of those around him. Jack continued his involvement with his elementary by serving as a spelling bee judge and in other volunteer posts after his 2007 retirement.

Jack went quietly about his life serving others in the community through various church callings and through his work as a plumber. He never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with everyone he encountered. He will be remembered as a hard worker, a loving father and husband, and a helping neighbor.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 13 years Mindy Pierce Sullivan, his sons: Kevin (Marty) Sullivan, Kyle (Suzanne) Sullivan, Thomas (Arlette) Sullivan and Jonathan (Erin) Sullivan, his daughters: Necia (Shane) Bulloch, Amy Sullivan and Cindy Sullivan, his step-children: Michelle (Ike)Turner and Brandon Pierce, and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Annette Valleau. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Ila Sullivan and his brothers Jerry and Dwayne. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hurricane LDS Stake Center, 677 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. Visitations will be held Friday evening, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 North Main Street and on Saturday at the Stake Center from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., prior to services. Interment will be at the Hurricane City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Hurricane Valley Mortuary, (435) 635-9922.
