IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jaclyn Colleen
Bennett Lane
October 31, 1953 – August 28, 2024
Jaclyn Colleen Lane, born Colleen Kay Bennett, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2024, at 6:09 PM, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 31, 1953, in Lynwood, California, Colleen was a cherished daughter of Charles Luther Bennett and Deloris Hampton Pitkin. Named after Colleen Kay Hutchins, Miss America of 1952, Colleen was destined for a life of grace, dedication, and service. She was the third oldest of her siblings and the second oldest daughter in her family.
Colleen spent her early years in Compton, California, where she formed lifelong memories, including catching the mumps from her childhood neighbor, a young Kevin Costner. Her family later moved to West Covina, California, where she attended Covina High School. Colleen excelled in both the drill team and choir, earning numerous awards, and had the honor of marching in the Rose Bowl parade in 1972.
Colleen was a woman of many talents and interests. She was a skilled seamstress and taught classes. She was a knitter and crocheter and loved toll painting. Her passion for music and drama was evident in her singing, guitar playing, and involvement in road shows and plays. She enjoyed playing card games, bowling, and even scuba diving. Colleen was an avid macramé artist, puzzle solver, baker, and cook. She found joy in swimming, fishing, camping, dancing, and horseback riding. Her love for nature was also expressed through gardening and raising chickens. Colleen was a devoted reader and had a special fondness for animals, which was evident in the way she cared for her pets. She was also actively involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where her love for music and community deepened.
After marrying Lambert Stallard in November 1974, she had her daughter Virginia Ann almost one year later in September 1975. This period of her life was filled with adventure and exploration, yet she always prioritized her family, especially her daughter, Virginia. Colleen and Lambert lived in various beautiful locations across California, including Oceano, Camarillo, Moorpark, Glendora, Ontario, and primarily in the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles County foothills. They also lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for about a year.
Eventually, after her marriage ended in April 1985, Colleen had to embrace single motherhood with strength and independence. She continued to provide a loving and stable home for Virginia, ensuring that her daughter always felt supported and cherished. Her life as a single mother was marked by resilience, devotion, and a deep love for her daughter, which remained at the heart of everything she did.
Colleen's professional life was equally impressive. She dedicated herself to the banking industry, working for several prominent institutions, including First Interstate Bank, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Foothill Independent Bank, America First, and Zions Bank. Her work at Jenny Craig further demonstrated her commitment to helping others. Colleen was known for her compassion, service-oriented nature, and the lifelong friendships she cultivated along the way, and it was this characteristic that led her to love once again when her path crossed William "Harry" Harold Lane.
On November 17, 1990, Colleen married Harry Lane at the Echoes of Faith Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. They lived in Glendora, CA, until Colleen and Harry moved to Pismo Beach and later to San Diego County. Throughout these moves, she always cherished the rolling hills and the ocean, finding peace and inspiration in the natural beauty surrounding her. They later moved to Victorville, Diamond Bar, and then St. George, Utah, where they retired. She took great pride in being sealed in the St. George Temple to Harry on June 10, 2015. Their marriage was marked by deep affection and shared faith.
Colleen is survived by her daughter, Virginia Stallard Grenier (Justin); her sister, Virginia Mills (Paul); her brothers, Edmund Bennett (Cris) and Steven Bennett (Shannon); her grandchildren, Dominique Pellonari (Amber), AshleyRenee Grenier, and Sabrina Grenier; and her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, William "Harry" Harold Lane; her father, Charles Luther Bennett; her mother, Deloris Pitkin Bennett; her brothers, Charles Eugene Bennett and Scott Luther Bennett; and her sister, Mary Ann Bennett.
Colleen's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to Summit Hospice and Red Hills Rehabilitation for their compassionate care and support during her final days.
